Preparing yourself for a photoshoot

When you invest in a photoshoot, your expectations can be quite high for the professional photographer you hire to make you look good. While they do most of that work behind the lens, there are also ways you can prepare to get the best possible results. Besides, coming to the shoot ready will help you avoid being flustered or stressed, which can definitely translate into the photographs!

It’s important to choose something comfortable and looks good on camera, too. Ask your photographer for some suggestions on what to wear, especially since they will be responsible for the overall look of your photo. Once you’ve agreed on a suitable outfit, ready your pieces a few days before the shoot by getting them laundered and ironed. Try to minimise outfit changes to keep things simple and stress-free.

Hair and make up can also play an important factor for your shoot, for more natural and lifestyle feel, less is always more! Practice that effortless natural make up before your shoot day to ensure again that you don’t feel stressed before your shoot. As for hair, dry hair will still be noticeable in photos, so best to deep condition beforehand for soft-looking tresses!

As a photographer, I find that one of the best ways to help a client prepare for a shoot is by creating a mood board for them. Depending on location, the look and feel of each shoot changes and therefore colour scheme and clothing style changes too. I love to scour Pinterest for the best images relating to each unique shoot location, I feel it gives you a much better visual for what to expect as well as useful poses too!
